New patent reveals more details Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone
Recently we reported that Samsung is almost close to launching a foldable smartphone. The news came directly from the CEO of Samsung, DJ Koh who confirmed details about the Samsung’s foldable device during an interview with CNet.
Following this, a new patent has been discovered on USPTO which confirms Koh’s claims of finalizing a foldable smartphone. The patent titled “flexible display and method of controlling shape or display of flexible device” was published on September 20, 2018, and it resembles the foldable device promo Samsung showed back in 2014. The patent shows a device like a tablet which has a hinge in the middle so can be folded in half.
There’s no doubt that Samsung will be one of the first companies to launch a foldable device. The question here is how much time does the company really need to perfect the smartphone and launch it. If we go back to Koh’s words, then the company plans to show a foldable device during Samsung Developer Conference. Not only that, there are rumours that the company might showcase a full-fledged foldable smartphone during CES 2019. Whatever the case might be, there’s a question that needs to be answered, do we really need foldable smartphones?
